(Traditional Christian Hymn)
Sir Isaac Watts /arr. Joshua Shoemaker - Joshua Shoemaker
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Publisher Desc.
This arrangement is perfect for either the concert stage and the
sanctuary! This traditional Holy Week hymn has been arranged for a concert
band, and it includes an optional organ part! Each verse is uniquely
arranged: solos, chorales, sectionals, and full band moments alike will
showcase different aspects of this beloved hymns. Brass, woodwinds, and
percussion will each have a chance to shine with solos and sectionals, so you
can feature your best soloists. Furthermore, the interludes and their motives
will usher unique transitions. These motives also present "When I Survey
the Wondrous Cross" in a contrasting minor key, complete with depressing
and furious renditions. These minor variations represent Jesus' crucifixion,
death, and being placed in the tomb, but yet ends with optimistic
foreshadowing. The final verse is the celebration of Jesus' resurrection, and
it is a glorious full band fanfare with an optional organ part. This
arrangement is both a wonderful musical and spiritual journey, perfect for
musical instruction and retelling the gospel story!
