Featured in the 2014 movie "Whiplash," depicting the relationship between an ambitious student musician and an abusive, yet respected instructor, this chart is a super-exciting work in 7/4 composed by Hank Levy and arranged by Erik Morales. Don't be intimidated by the meter... it's challenging, but after a few minutes it feels quite natural and the students will totally groove on it. The melody is stated by 2nd trumpet and 1st alto with solo space for both on easy chord changes. Articulation is critical and the rhythm section may want to spend some quality time together. The lead trumpet range is to written D above the staff. This is a unique but very desirable chart to have in your library. You won't regret playing Whiplash!
