Here's a great chart to introduce the funk style to developing jazz bands while keeping some complex harmonies in the mix to keep things exciting. After laying down the groove, the melody is stated by a duet between the alto sax and trumpet before the full band joins in. The solo section features improvised solos for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet or trombone. After the solos, there's a nice breakdown followed by a short drum solo before the melody is restated by the full band and alto sax/trumpet duo. This chart grooves hard from start to finish!
