A Child Is Born in Bethlehem

Using Alstott's translation of Puer natus in Bethlehem, Walker has created a compelling, contemporary Christmastime chant setting for SATB choir (plus descant) and organ. Using techniques such as open-fifth cadences, parallel organum, and fauxbourdon, he pays homage to the middle ages while using more modern harmonic techniques in the organ interludes and harmonization of the last verse, thus embodying the “ever ancient, ever new” quality of our faith.
