Reynaldo Hahn was a naturalized French Venezuelan composer, conductor, music critic, diarist, stage director, and salon singer. Hahn's family moved to Paris when he was three years old. Although he showed interest in the music of his native Caracas in his youth, France would "determine and define Hahn's musical identity in later life." At the age of eight, Hahn composed his first songs. His teachers included Jules Massenet, Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saens, and Émile Decombes. Alfred Cortot and Maurice Ravel were his fellow students. This piece is an absolute must-have for every band.
