This is an eight-minute work for the Celtic lever harp. Th music is a kind of evolving set of variations that incorporates a gradual shifting of the tuning levers, string by string, to create expressive cross relations among notes in different registers as the music shifts through different keys. The musical gestures were inspired by a chough in flight or activity on the ground.
This work was composed in 2014 for harpist Dr. Helen Lawlor, lecturer at TU Dublin Conservatoire and author of "Irish Harping 1900 to 2010." Dr. Lawlor is also co-editor with Dr. Sandra Joyce (University of Limerick) of "Harp Studies I & II: World Harp Traditions" published by Four Courts Press).
