Each year Austrians ring in the new year with a performance of Johann Strauss' Radetzky. Composed in 1848 and dedicated to the military commander Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, this march became popular among the Austrian military. This arrangement includes the snare drum introduction synonymous with the traditional playing of this march, as well as, the original grace notes in the woodwinds. The trio features a trumpet solo. Radetzky is great way to introduce your students to music of the Romantic Period. This march serves well in concert or contest.

This march comes from von Suppe's operetta Boccaccio. Premiered in 1879, this operetta is still performed today and has been staged by some of the greatest opera companies in the world including the New York Metropolitan Opera. The story of the opera revolves around the life and love of Renaissance poet Giovanni Boccaccio. March for BOCCACCIO is great way to introduce your students to music of the Romantic Period.  This march serves well in concert or contest.

This famous African-American Spiritual celebrates Old Testament warrior Joshua, who is known by many names in Jewish, Christian and Islamic writings. Songs of release from bondage were prominent with African-American slaves and their descendents who endured decades of prejudice following the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment. The idea of walls tumbling down represented freedoms denied yet carried in hearts, hopes and minds  freedoms which resonate in us all.

Be Thou My Vision by Dan Rager is a beautiful setting for concert band of the classic hymn by the same name. The original melody is based an Irish folksong which dates back to the 6th Century. The hymn has captured the hearts of audience around the world with its elegant simplicity. Composer Dan Rager has elevated its elegance in this setting with soaring brass and rich harmonic textures. Be Thou My Vision

Composed in 1902, National Emblem is by far Edwin Eugene Bagley’s most recognizable marches. Since its original publication in 1906 the piece has been performed at countless civic and patriotic events and it is still used in the ceremonial performances of the U.S. military bands, today. Arranger and editor Alan Gregory presents this classic march with updated score and parts for the modern wind ensemble. This composition is a perfect complement to the patriotic program or simply as a rousing opener or closer.

National Emblem

Civil Rights was written for the Mid-Atlantic Wind Symphony for a concert in 2013. The piece focuses on the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s monumental rise to become a major national figure in 1963. Over the span of that year, many major and significant events occurred. It was in the early part of the year that Dr. King was arrested and jailed in Birmingham, Alabama. While being held, he penned the famous "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." In many ways this letter helped to solidify the Civil Rights Movement and focus the cause through a unified vision. This event is commemorated with three powerful movements.

Concert Band Score & Parts (Mvt. 1)

This traditional Welsh Lullaby will make a beautiful statement on your next concert. Opening with a melodic statement featuring the flute section (or soloist) accompanied by mallet percussion and the sounds of a soft wind, this composition develops into a lush exposition of a this well known song. Followed with a crescendo into a exhilarating re-statement of this cherished ballad. Your audience is sure to love this soft change of pace!

All Through the Night

Seophonic Rhapsody features two contrasting sections. The first section, a Grade 3, flows expressively and smoothly, beginning quietly and gradually building in intensity. The second section, a Grade 4, incorporates melodic elements of the first section in a contrasting robust, rhythmic and staccato style. Climaxing to an exciting finish! The title for Seophonic Rhapsody comes from the old English word "seofon" ("seven"), referencing the 7/4 time signature in the first section and the 7/8 time signature in the second section. Seofon is spelled differently to incorporate the word phonic (sound). Seophonic Rhapsody is a medium-level piece for wind ensemble with a duration of about 4:40.

Alamo was originally published in 1916 by the Fillmore Music House under the pseudonym of Will Huff on the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo (1836).

 

This march begins in a traditional format with a short introduction followed by two sections of contrasting dynamic flare. In the first presentation of the Trio, this arrangement has been scored to present a Euphonium soloist accompanied by the elongated melody in the woodwinds. The practice of featuring a soloist would have been a common practice by professional bands in the concert halls of the early 20th Century.

 

After an articulate call and response in the dog fight strain, Fillmore varied from the standard practices of many marches from this period in the second and final presentation of the Trio at the end of the piece. Here, Fillmore wrote fantastic fireworks in the upper woodwinds soaring over the melodic material presented in the Trio and tripling the woodwinds' original melody in the saxophones, trumpets, and trombones. The effect in the reprisal of the Trio is the culmination of a fiery Finale to highlight the technical expertise any early 20th Century Band.

Dark Star takes the listener on an imaginary journey through a different version of the childhood classic Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.


In the night sky, stars twinkle and shine. But "up above the world so high", hidden from wondering eyes is the presence of the Dark Star. A brooding, heavy and cold star lurking behind the others shining so bright. Veiled in mystery and undiscovered by human eyes the Dark Star lies hidden in plain sight.

The classic, whimsical composition, Shepherd's Hey, by Percy Grainger is now available for Flexible Instrumentation. This arrangement by Aaron Noe holds true to the original composition while making it accessible to ensembles with "non-traditional" instrumentation. Scored in a 5-part flexible format with optional percussion, this arrangement allows for performances by ensembles ranging from quintet to full band.

Shepherd's Hey

This concert march is a part of Aamano Music's Classic Wind Band Repertoire Series. Composed in 1920 by Henry Fillmore under the pseudonym Harold Bennett, this selection is ideal for the advanced Middle School to young High School ensemble. Headway March is an ideal opener to any concert, contest or festival.

Time Machine is an exciting composition written to develop rhythm skills and time signature awareness in the developing band. Time is an essential element of music without time music is simply noise. It is the elements of time such as rhythm, tempo and pulse which transform the soundscape from noise to music. Time Machine explores these elements opening with a driving and rhythmic section which transitions into a simple statement in 3/4 time. It is the hope of the composer that this composition will excite young musicians as they develop one of the most basic elements of music, Time!

Knowing that this piece was going to be performed by young students, I wanted to give them the opportunity to share in the creative process of writing this piece. I had Mr. Ryan Addair (the conductor of the group which commissioned the piece) ask each student in his band class to come up with one word describing the experience of growing up in the 21st century. I chose several representative examples from the list and depicted those thoughts in music.Each of the movements is based on the essential rhythmic gestures of the traditional Baroque dance suite. I have used contemporary harmonies and other compositional methods to give fresh perspective to these forms. It is my hope that this suite will have special meaning to those performing it. I endeavored to create a salient connection with both past and present while looking towards the future…

Aaron Noe has updated this classic march for contemporary wind ensemble including notating standard performance practices (often referred to as the Sousa Style).
