Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture was composed in the summer of 1880 in response to the University of Breslau awarding him with an honorary doctorate. This lyrical and exciting work is still a part of the orchestral canon. This band version which captures the warmth and festive nature of the original was written as a featured work for commencement ceremonies. As a result, its length has been condensed from more than 10 minutes to just over 4 minutes and is a delightful addition to any program.
