This piece for string orchestra takes inspiration from the book, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. The first section is seemingly normal but features a modulation halfway through the phrase, signaling that there is a feeling of uneasiness. The second section features a fanfare depicting the scene of the Elders choosing the roles of the recent graduates. Then, the music slows down to a slow and lyrical section that represents the flood of feelings that the main character is feeling after receiving the memories from his newly appointed role. As he realizes how dystopian the world is, he comes up with a plan to return the memories that the Elders kept from themselves and the community. The main character gets caught and starts to run. He makes it to his goal and the community receives all the memories that the main character had received and everything becomes emotional but stable at the end.

The first movement, "Castled", tries to capture the fanfares
  and atmosphere of life within the walls of a castle, or at least the
  romanticized version of it. It should feel as if you are moving through
  castle grounds, taking in the different atmospheres of your medieval home.
  The second movement, "A Tale of Treasure", takes a different,
  sudden turn on the feeling. This movement is more about the adventures people
  would often have, reminiscent of pirates. It comes to a close by alluding to
  the castle in the first movement, after traveling through eerie areas and
  getting attacked. The crew expects to have lost everything with no gain when
  a crew member surprises everyone at the end with a very valuable artifact.

This piece is a duet for two percussionists that focuses on the main rhythmic idea introduced at the start of the work. The first percussionist will have metal-based instruments like the triangle, cymbals, a tam-tam, and a gong. The second percussion player will have multiple drums all pitched differently. They will be playing 2-measure cells that repeat multiple times with different variations each time.

Adam Arroyo's second work for orchestra, "Short Emotional Sketches", aims for a wide variety of emotions and sounds. The piece is inspired by Dvorak's Romani Melodies, a collection of short songs for voice and piano with an ABA form. Much like the piece by Dvorak, Arroyo's piece has song-like qualities for the players of the orchestra which explores the different textures and harmonies of the modern orchestra. This piece also includes Alto and Tenor Saxophones to freshen up the listener's experience when it comes to orchestral music. Saxophones are not usually found in orchestras, but in this piece, they are used as both solo and ensemble players. Arroyo has done this in the past for his piece titled "Stone and Mortar", and it has inspired his peers to also include the saxophones as part of their compositions.
