Adult Piano Adventures

Adult Piano Adventures enables the adult beginner to play music for pleasure while developing musical understanding. This book presents the fundamentals of music notation, chord playing, and musical form - all through engaging music chosen specifically for the adult. In fact, within these pages await musical gems such as Over the Rainbow; Fiddler on the Roof; Amazing Grace; Don't Cry for Me, Argentina and Lean On Me. Each unit includes a "3-Minute Technique" page to develop finger dexterity and a "Music Theory" page to develop understanding of rhythm and harmony. Book 1 begins with simple, pre-staff tunes on the black keys, then progresses to tunes on the white keys with letter names in noteheads. The grand staff is introduced in Unit 2 and the student begins playing with the right hand thumb on middle C and the left hand thumb on middle B. Hand positions vary as the student progresses through the book. The layout of these spiral-bound books is clear and attractive. Teacher duets are offered for most of the tunes in Book 1 and optional CDs and General MIDI Disks for both Books 1 and 2 offer fabulous and fun background accompaniments. Christmas for All Time, Book 1, tailored to the adult pianist, offers traditional, popular and seasonal favorites in accessible arrangements, with some teacher duets.
