This is a setting of Siegfried Sassoon's World War I poem "Aftermath" for SATB a cappella choir (singing in Welsh), Narrator (reciting the poem), Rainstick, and Triangle.a Sassoon wrote the poem in March 1919, shortly after the poet was demobilised.a By this stage, Sassoon had come to despise the war, but retained, throughout his life a great affection for the men with whom he had served, which is reflected in this piece.a This very personal poem used to be broadcast on Armistice Day in the years immediately after the war.a The ensemble sings four phrases from the poem in Welsh as a tribute to the 38th (Welsh) Division and the Royal Welch Fusiliers of which Sassoon was an officer.
