Inspired by the aria “Ombra mai fú” from Handel’s opera Serse, this Agnus Dei is a lovely, expressive arrangement for solo Oboe or B flat Clarinet, Voice, and Piano.The vocal range for the singer is D4–A5 (Tenor D3–A4) with optional lower notes for those times when the most dramatic pitches may not be appropriate. The haunting melody is first heard in the oboe or clarinet – also featured in a solo interlude which provides a moment for quiet reflection. An evocative elaboration by the singer on “dona nobis pacem” provides a modest closing cadenza. Agnus Dei is suitable for church service or concert. The solo part is included. Also available with organ accompaniment.
