Traveler is a high energy piece with active Bass and Cello parts. These two parts provide the rhythmic energy for the work and must be executed with precision and rhythmic accuracy. The upper strings share the basic melodic motives and alternate the melody throughout the violins and violas. There is an abundance of syncopation among the parts but once learned, the piece will provide the students with a fast paced work that is enjoyable to play.

Traveler

Soliloquy: an utterance or discourse spoken to oneself, with regard for whether any other hearers are present. This piece is a musical expression of an utterance. It's reflected in the melody which is shared among the voices. It's a plaintive song, which is especially true when one has a discussion with oneself. It's a soliloquy by a string orchestra.

Weifarere is a contemporary string orchestra setting of the southern folk hymn "Poor Wayfaring Stranger". With its haunting melody and pensive mood, this tune reflects the poignancy that early settlers experienced trying to survive in the "new world". However, as the piece progresses Weifarere becomes a joyous, spirited expression that conveys the exuberance of being alive and settling the new land.
