All Gals Medley Performance Notes:
All Gals Medley is intended for very young bands which have been taught to
play the first 7 pitches
introduced in most band method books: (B-flat, C, D, E-flat, F, G and
A-flat). The All Gals Medley
includes Go Tell Aunt Rhodie, Mary had a Little Lamb, Aura Lee and Good
Night Ladies. Other than the
inclusion of A-flat, this arrangement is typical of the very simple Grade
1/2 music for beginners.
Clarinets are below the break, and there are no eighth-notes. The music has
been arranged to allow the
band to perform all or parts of the medley at the discretion of the
director. All instruments will have an
opportunity to play a melodic passage. The percussion interludes will allow
young embouchures plenty
of rest between the songs. All of the cues in this arrangement may be
played or not played at the
discretion of the director. All of the repeats are optional and are not
included in this recording.
A special suggestion about measure 40: The chord at this spot omits the
concert B-natural needed for
the correct harmony in Aura Lee. If the director wants to include B-natural
there, the Oboe, Tenor Sax
and/or the Horn can play it quite easily.
Thank you for choosing this arrangement. I hope you and your students will
find it enjoyable and
instructive.
