All Through The Night is an old Welsh melody from the 18th Century that has been used in worship settings and has been sung as a Christmas carol. This arrangement is for string quartet, and keeps the simplicity and beauty of the original sound, but with interest created through the variations of each of the verses. Each of the players takes the melody in turn, changing the texture of the sound. At times the verses have simple accompaniments, while the middle verses have eighth note passages in the middle voices, to create movement and interest. The cello ends the piece with a portion of the melody in a higher range.
