An die Musik, music by Franz Schubert, text by Franz Shober, arranged by Pierre Calmelet for four voices mixed choir SATB and piano : Composed in March 1817 on a poem by his friend Franz Schober (1796-1882), An die Musik is one of Franz Schubert's most famous Lieder. The poet thanks the music that has always supported him in difficult times, opening the doors to a better world. These words of hope inspired Schubert, then 20 years old, with a luminous music that some critics would even describe as "miraculous". This song was the traditional ending to the Schubertiades, private social concerts held in the apartments of wealthy Viennese people. This ritual has been perpetuated until today and it is often An die Musik that is chosen to close important musical events (concerts, colloquiums, etc...). It would be impossible to list all the singers who have distinguished themselves in the interpretation of this work. However, let us mention the exceptional versions by Felicity Lott, Dietrich Ficher Diskau and Fritz Wunderlich.
