Anchor Watch was commissioned by Travis Downs and North Gwinnett Middle School for the percussion ensemble's performance at the 2024 Midwest Clinic. Anchor Watch is a nautical term for the lookout duty of a sailor, typically at night when a boat is anchored. The piece aims to submerge the audience into the middle of the ocean at the break of dawn. Throughout the piece, the performers create "waves" through different musical techniques such as instruments sounding across the physical hall, to phrasing of musical lines, and to dynamic swells. If one so desires, the composer recommends to close their eyes during the performance.
