Strauss composed the Annen-Polka in 1852 to celebrate the day of St. Anne. The Annen-Polka was quite popular right from its premiere in 1852 when the Viennese newspapers reported as follows: "Johann Strauss had a nice present to all Anna, Ninas, Nanys, Nettchens etc, with his last polka, which he titled 'Annen-Polka' in their honor. The audience liked it so much because of the fascinating, melodious and appealing melody. There were numerous requests to hear it again and again."
