This joyful Christmas piece is a setting of the traditional German carol
  (in Latin) incorporating the original melody (also known as Joseph Dearest
  Joseph Mine). It is scored for SATB voices with divisi and French Horn. A
  transposed horn part is included in the score for rehearsal but may be played
  on an organ or other keyboard if a horn player is not available.

This anthem for SATB choir and organ is a joyful celebration in honor of St. Mark the Evangelist. The text is by Anthony Corvaia, Jr. The performance
recorded here is by the choir of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Philadelphia. A MIDI rendering is inserted at 4:25 for a section that was added after the
recording was made.

We Celebrate With Hymns Exuberant

With the approaching 250th anniversary celebration of the United States, we begin a new chapter in the story of America. Why not mark the occasion with a new take on a classic patriotic hymn? This new, original setting of America the Beautiful reflects a wide range of emotions including drama, passion, and tenderness. Although the melody and harmonies are new, there are deliberate echoes of the well-known hymn by Samuel A. Ward. This may be performed by a cappella choir or with one of the available instrumental accompaniments for band, orchestra, or flex ensemble.

America the Beautiful

This setting of the Latin prayer Stabat Mater is appropriate for concert or church use by choirs looking for a challenge. The moving message of the text is reflected in gripping dissonances and chromatic passages. A literal translation of the Latin is given above the staff to help singers connect with and communicate the text.

This major work is an a cappella setting of the St. John Passion especially appropriate for liturgical use on Good Friday or for concert performance. It features the passion narrative sung in English (RSV) with Old Testament scriptural echoes and prophetic references sung simultaneously by the choir in Latin. Challenging but rewarding for choir and listeners alike.

This is a setting of the poem "The Mending" by Mother Mary
  Francis, P.C.C. The subtle spiritual message of the text tells of the healing
  power of the love of God. Both the choral and the orchestral parts are
  composed to be easy to learn.

The Mending

This setting of the traditional Latin text owes more in inspiration to
  Byrd than to Mozart and provides a fresh alternative to both of those
  standards. The composition unfolds as a series of canons which feature subtle
  chromatic shifts and expressive harmony.

Ave Verum Corpus

This is a setting of the Oscar Wilde poem Endymion which tells a story
  from Greek mythology of a beautiful shepherd boy who captures the affection
  of the moon goddess, Selene. An available string orchestra arrangement of the
  accompaniment may be used in place of the original piano accompaniment.

This choral song cycle consists of settings of the four main Marian antiphons used in the traditional Latin liturgy: Ave, Regina coelorum; Regina Coeli; Alma Redemptoris Mater; and Salve Regina. The music makes use of much expressive dissonance but within the limits of a purely diatonic collection of pitches. The antiphons are presented here in the order in which they would be sung during the church year. If performed as a group in a concert setting they may be sung in this order or the order may be changed for musical reasons. They may also be performed individually for liturgical or concert use.

This string quartet was composed in 2001 and revised 2006. It is based on
  themes from two Haydn quartets: Op. 33, No. 1 and Op. 64, No. 2. It ranges in
  style from diatonic minimalism to neo-romanticism to post-modernism.

String Quartet

This composition, commissioned and premiered by Choral Arts Philadelphia
  in 2015, is an atmospheric and multi-layered setting of the Latin O antiphon
  O Radix Jesse combined with Lo, How a Rose Eier Blooming. It is written for
  SATB double choir with additional divisi in each choir. Lots of sound!

O Radix Jesse

This modern but approachable motet is inspired by the classic setting of
  the same gospel text (John 14:15-17) by Thomas Tallis. My version, marked by
  expressive diatonic tone clusters and canonic treatment, offers a refreshing
  alternative to the Tallis.

If Ye Love Me

This piece for a cappella SSAA choir is based on a Gregorian chant by Dom
  Joseph Pothier, O.S.B. (1835-1923). It celebrates the Immaculate Conception
  of the Virgin Mary with a text based on the Song of Songs.

Tota pulchra es

This exciting overture juxtaposes and develops two musical ideas, one rhythmic/metric and the other melodic/harmonic. The predominant meter of the composition is 12/8, yet within the twelve divisions of the measure there are recurring patterns of five, seven, and nine, sometimes layered simultaneously. The pitch elements of the music grow out of a very simple three-note motive: do-re-sol, initially presented on the pitch G, but constantly transformed and extended. The working out of these two elements: rhythmic/metric and melodic/harmonic, make up the spirited outer sections of a ternary form. The calmer B section is an eight-part canon at the fifth whose subject begins with the original three-note motive. Throughout the composition there are deliberate clashes and shifts between diatonic and chromatic materials and episodes creating alternating moments of bright and dark sound.

These songs are settings of Shakespeare sonnets 128, 73, and 130. Each song is in a different musical style. Sonnet 128 uses William Byrd's "O Mistress Mine" as an accompaniment with an added voice part (similar to the Bach/Gounod "Ave Maria" - or more appropriately Lucy's song "Schroeder" from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown). Sonnet 73 is in a more modern idiom, and Sonnet 130 is in a romantic style.

This is a reworking (for solo voice) of my choral arrangements of three folk songs from the northeastern region of England: The Water of Tyne, Bonny at Morn, Bobby Shaftoe. They may be sung as a set or individually. The songs range from sweet and tender to fun and sassy.
