Originally composed as the first of Three Melodies, Opus 7, "Apres un reve" (After a dream), tells of a romantic flight with a lover, away from the earth and "towards the light." However, upon awakening, the dreamer longs to return to the "mysterious night" and the ecstatic falsehood of his dream.
Arranged here for Violoncello (cello) and piano in two versions: for the intermediate player (in the original octaves), and for the advanced player (with a large section up an octave). Both edited with fingerings and bowings.
