"Arthur: King!" is a one-act ballet in six scenes. Based on the legends of King Arthur, it premiered in 1981 with the Austin Ballet Theatre. The score is anchored by two recurring themes that act as extended leitmotifs, exploring Arthur’s dual nature: a stately chorale (1:22) that represents him as a divine national symbol, and a melancholy melody in the clarinets (2:26) that captures his isolated humanity. Variations of these themes permeate the entire work. Additionally, the score incorporates the Holy Grail leitmotif from Wagner’s "Parsifal." Heard three times, it is used here to characterize Lancelot and his spiritual quest.
This is a piano reduction of the orchestral score. It is meant for ballet rehearsal use and is not suited for public performance. Level A - Duration 30:00
