This arrangement for Pedal Harp has four out of five of the original
Waltzes with the Waltzes and sections marked to make creating a shorter
version easier. There is also a Lever Harp version available. The Pedal and Lever Harp versions may be
performed together. The versions only differ in the pedal/lever markings and
an occasional harmony note.
The Ball season of 1867 was particularly challenging to the Strauss
brothers and their orchestras due to the defeat the previous summer by the
Prussian army and cancellation of that Ball season. Johann met the challenge
with first presenting The Blue Danube and then three weeks later giving the
Ball attendees its twin, Artists Life. This autobiographical piece starts
slow, as if just waking up, but once the Waltzes start, its all fun.
