Soon after its founding in 1912, the Vitak-Elsnic Company began publishing original march compositions and arrangements by Frantisek Kmoch (1848-1912), the "Bohemian March King." At the Mill March (Pode Mlejnem Pochod) is one of Kmoch's best-known works. Kmoch is often compared to a contemporary, John Philip Sousa, America's undisputed march king. Kmoch's composition built on a Czech folk song and is all about geese! This tune was published in Prague in 1906 and first recorded in the U.S. in 1911 on a wax cylinder.
