Autumn Reminiscence is Written by Mark Stovall of Emporia, KS. Stovall was raised in Halstead, KS. He is currently studying for a bachelors degree in music education at Emporia State University. Stovall credits God with his gifts and abilities.
Autumn Reminiscence was written in early fall of 2023. The piece is meant to bring about a feeling of Nostalgia and memories of the season. It features a fanfare in the beginning to symbolize the ending of summer, which seems to pass by faster every year. The piece then progresses into a faster, rhythm focused piece to demonstrate the fast pace of the season with the beginning of the school year and all that it entails. The piece also evokes an image of all the change that occurs during Autumn including all the changing trees and wildlife, as well as everything that life holds. The piece closes with the same fanfare as Autumn comes to an end all too fast. The close, sometimes dissonant harmonies, and joyful rhythms really bring a sense of nostalgia. The piece was performed for the first time ever on Sunday, November 12, at Emporia State University by Mark (R.J.) Stovall, Tristan Stevens, Adrienne Greenfield, and David Medrano.
