Originally composed by Franz Biebl in 1964 for a chorus of seven male voices and then later arranged for mixed choirs, this arrangement preserves the contrapuntal and harmonic integrity of the original motet, preserving the original key of C Major and musical structure such that it can be performed in tandem with the original composition without any modifications. While this orchestration is written for string orchestra, the three solos include the original Latin text and treble clef writing so that they may be performed as vocal recitations.
While written for a standard string orchestra instrumentation, this piece requires the cello section to split into a3 divisi for the entire piece.
This orchestration of Ave Maria was written for the Hopkins Middle School 2025-2026 Advanced Orchestra, located in Fremont, California.
