Peter Freyhan has taken five works, mostly keyboard pieces, by J.S. Bach and arranged them for unaccompanied cello. Bach was himself an inveterate arranger of his own and other people's music, including Vivaldi violin concertos which he arranged for harp sichord; the skill is in making the arrangements as believable as the originals. Freyhan does this with consumate skill; for example, his arrangement of Jesu Joy of man's Desiring gives the impression of both the chorale melody and the obbligato being played simultaneously.
