Bret Zvacek's accessible chart on the blues not only has a clever title, it's a laid-back swinger that's lays right in the pocket! There's nothing like a straight-ahead, medium blues chart for teaching the essential elements of jazz playing. Bacon Suite Blues has it all: a strong melody, solid ensemble writing, varying dynamics and an optional open solo section with included solo sheets. There's a soft ensemble section after the solos that builds to a wonderful shout and then a trombone section soli, then more hard-driving and down home swing leading to a cool finale. A great chart with great writing that's highly recommended!
