This is a 7-minute duo for Japanese koto and cello in the form of a set of variations and built upon a tango rhythm. It is a dramatic and engaging piece for audiences that merges Japanese, Western classical and South American sensibilities into a contemporary world music experience.
This work is based on the composeris earlier Bamboo and Silk Tango for shakuhachi and koto. The koto part remains the same as the earlier work but the cello part is a complete recasting of the shakuhachi part. Hence, the meaning of the added tag on the title: Again (new partner).
Intended for advanced level performers, I composed this work for the Duo Yumeno (https://duoyumeno.com) who premiered it in 2014 at Distler Performance Hall at Tufts University. The audio heard here with this sample score is the recording from that premiere performance.
