Batter My Heart

Text: Sonnet by John Donne of the same name. Themes: Spiritual struggle, Holy Trinity, grace, desire for redemption and transformation. Musical Content: 8 individual parts, rich harmonies and varied textures. The harmony hints at earlier eras in places. Suitable for: Professional or College / university choirs and able chamber choir. Commissioned by the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the dedication of New Chapel. First performed on Wednesday 18th October by The Choir of Lincoln's Inn Chapel, London, directed by Nicholas Shaw.
