It's no joke. Of course, there were many men from Nantucket, but this man was unlike any other. In fact, you may have heard of him. His name was Captain George Pollard, Jr. 

Pollard was captain of the "Essex", the Nantucket whaler attacked and sunk by an angry sperm whale. It's true. Pollard captained the ship that inspired one of the greatest books of all time: MOBY-DICK.

One of the unluckiest seamen to ever sail the high seas, Pollard faced tragedy a second time aboard another ship, and so begins our woebegotten tale...

"The Concept of Anxiety" is a composition for trumpet and piano, inspired by Sren Kierkegaard's philosophical work of the same name.

Kierkegaard presents the example of a person standing on the edge of a cliff. When the person looks over the edge, they experience both an aversion to falling and the impulse to throw themself off. The sensation one feels is anxiety (or dread) because the person has the ability to choose. Kierkegaard refers to this as the "dizziness of freedom."

<p>ADVENTURE celebrates the last of the Essex-built, dory fishing schooners. The composition opens with the mournful sound of a foghorn echoing through the dense early morning air. An English horn or clarinet play a somber melody as they set out to sea. At first, the ship slowly moves out of the harbor under power, but as the wind picks up, she sets sail and bounds over the ocean on her way to the banks. Suddenly, the wind fails, and she settles back into the water. Thoughts of home and friends lost at sea fill the fishermen’s minds as they row away in their dories to set their lines. The music moves again as the fishermen return, and there is great rejoicing over a bountiful catch. Finally, the music explodes as ADVENTURE sets sail and heads for home!</p>

  Marsh Concert during Gloucester, Massachusetts' 400+ celebration on March 7,
