Giaches de Wert (1535-1596), was a composer of great importance during
his lifetime, although most historical recognition has focused on his
madrigals. From 1565 until his death, he served in the dual capacity of
maestro di camera to the court of Mantua, and maestro di cappella of Santa
Barbara - the newly erected ducal chapel. Forty-four of his motets were
published in the 1583 collection, "Modulationum Sacrarum quinque et sex
vocum libri tres, in unum volumen redacti" (Sacred Music for five and
six voices from three books, together in one volume). This is one of several
that I have transcribed and edited from that collection.
