Berkeley Denies

This piece was composed during the first part of the Covid pandemic, when choral groups could not meet in person. Each performer sings/plays through the simple modal melody twice, at their own speed. When my choral group, Triad, performed the piece, each singer and instrumentalist recorded herself performing the piece at her own speed, and I then mixed down the multitracked recordings. The result is rather like a crowd murmuring in a dream. Later, members of the C4 choir of New York performed the piece live, using a networked audio technology. The piece certainly can be performed live with all singers and instruments in the same room. The text is a fragment from the works of philosopher George Berkeley, 1685-1753.
