The concept of Between the Keys takes place in the mind of a pianist. Starting with a simple and memorable piano motif, the featured pianist acts as a catalyst throughout the show to spawn a stream-of-consciousness exploration of ideas. The score was crafted to take advantage of bold colors - but with conservative ranges and technical demands for the brass. This ensures a big sound in conjunction with the breath marks and phrasing already written in the score to make your job that much easier! Visually, the field can be manipulated in a wide variety of ways through large vertical white and black moving props that represent the keys of the piano. The more you have the better! The mobility of these props allows the visual production to change the shape and dimension of the negative space on the field.
