Bogoroditse Devo

Part of Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, opus 37, also known as The Vespers, this work is characterized by its serene yet rich tone. Voices are carefully layered to create a sense of spiritual depth and tranquility. Since the work centers in the bass and lower treble, alternate assignments are given, and it may be played by handbells, handchimes, or a combination of the two. Although it is generally associated with Christmas, it can be performed and appreciated year-round in both sacred and concert settings.
