The Bohemian Girl is an opera in three acts by Irish composer Michael Balfe (1808 - 1870). This was first performed in 1843 at London's Drury Lane Theatre and ran for with great success for 100 nights and followed with revivals in Europe and the US. This remained in the repertories of touring companies for the next 100 years to include a silent movie rendition and a 1936 comedic version by comic greats Laurel & Hardy. Balfe is noted as the most important operatic composer in Victorian England and is credited with over 43 operas in his life time. He also conducted the local premiers of several Verdi operas. Bohemian Girl was Balfe's greatest triumph with "I Dreamt That I Dwelt in Marbles Halls" standing the test of time.
