Bolero Spania

This is the last of a group of challenging compositions written for nine players. This number was composed to introduce the eighth-sixteenth note triplet pattern of Ravel's famous Bolero. Due to the difficulty of patterns, this composition was written for the high school or older middle school student. Mallet parts include rolls, sixteenth notes, and triplets with a bolero feel. The tempo is andante with the tambourine introducing the bolero rhythm. The theme is developed by all of the members of the ensemble using dynamics and complex rhythms. This is an interesting, creative, and enjoyable work for both the performer and the audience.
