An immovable object is a something that cannot be shifted by any force, symbolizing infinite mass and absolute permanence.  It is also an idea or belief of unwavering resolve.  “Immovable Object” uses the first six notes found in most beginner band books, plus the concert E-natural and simple rhythms with basic repeated eighth notes.  Thunderous percussion, powerful chords, and driving melodies and sophisticated harmonies make it perfect for a beginner band spring festival or end-of-year concert.

IMMOVABLE OBJECT

“Goin’ Home” is adapted from the second movement of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” Although sometimes thought to be a traditional spiritual, Dvořák composed the melody himself. The piece blends European Romanticism with American folk and spiritual influences, expressing themes of longing, peace, and the comfort of returning home. Its soulful character has made it a beloved choice for memorials and moments of reflection.

This arrangement is meticulously scored for younger bands, allowing them to perform one of the most beautiful and meaningful melodies in classical music. Ideal for festivals and concerts, it is sure to make any young ensemble sound mature beyond their years.
