Diversion in Brass is lively quintet inspired by compositions of John Cheetham (Scherzo) and Roger Cichy (Divertimento).  The work opens with a rollicking melody that demands precision from all performers.  This is followed by a tender lyrical section, a contrapuntal transition, and a recap of themes.  Another quirk of the music is the substitution of the euphonium for the traditional trombone (though trombonists are welcome to tackle the part!).  A throwback to band and brass music of the 1980s and 1990s, Diversion in Brass is a stylish addition to the quintet repertoire that will challenge even the most seasoned of performers.

Quintet

Originally composed for E-flat, B-flat and Bass Clarinets, Four Scenes was composed for a classmate who attended George Mason University when I did.  His tremendous talent allowed me the freedom to compose a work for a variety of clarinets.  25 years later, Dr. Ann Fronckowiak, Professor of Oboe at Texas A&amp;M University-Kingsville, requested I transpose the piece for double reeds.  That version was premiered in March 2023, featuring oboe and English horn.  The movements highlight the strengths and versatility of the different instruments and is a showcase for the wind player and percussionist.
