Reclamation Suite includes six of the variations from Reclamation Variations, which was composed from March to May in 2020.  The pandemic had exposed many of the underlying problems in the Western world.  In addition to the health crisis, the class war between the wealthy and the poor looks to widen even more in the coming years with high inflation increasing.  A long reclamation period to restore what has severely eroded over many decades is what I see coming for much of the Western world.  As a result, this music reflects a somber tone, but also of determination and affirmation.

This SERENADE was my first attempt at writing for this type of chamber
  orchestra ensemble. Written in a loose sonata form, the music was highly
  inspired by Ralph Vaughan Williams' string and chamber orchestra works.
  Because of this, the flavor of this work is melancholic.  Duration: ca 5:30

IN MOTION was written in the Summer of 2017 as a result of a friend's
  suggestion. This was the first time I had attempted to compose for a guitar
  orchestra ensemble, which has only emerged in recent years. This somewhat
  syncopated work is meant to be both fun for the performers and the
  audience.
    
    The 5th Guitar 's sixth string must be tuned down to drop-D tuning. The
  rest of the guitars are in standard tuning. The key signatures represent A
  Dorian and F Lydian.  As of 2023, I
  made a couple of very small edits to make the work easier to perform. The
  work now includes optional divided parts in some areas as well as a few more
  comfortable note edits.

Fantasy Variations represents a culmination of years of musical  exploration and personal development.a  The primary goal in writing the piece was to create a large-scale  orchestra work that made use of the solo piano to generate music of the  piece's main material. Other areas of particular interest were to develop the  composer's use of form, melody, harmony, rhythm, and orchestration.  Inspirations for composing this piece came from a wide range of artists:  Gustav Mahler's style of developing variations, Camille Saint-Seans' use of  piano with orchestra in African Fantasy, and Keith Emerson's elaborately  orchestrated Piano Concerto.a         Fantasy Variations is a ten minute work for solo piano and orchestra that  is based solely on the opening idea stated in the piano. The piece begins in  F-sharp minor with hints of F-sharp major and ends firmly in F-sharp major.

"Frost" was inspired by my memories of growing up in Kansas and
  the cold winters. The music is somewhat minimalistic in nature, as the work
  contains repeated driving-rhythms. All of the thematic material is derived
  from the 8-note motive that is continuously heard through most of the work.

  winters as I now live in the ever warm state of California. The music is
  somewhat minimalistic in nature, as the work contains repeated

  the 8-note motive that is continuously heard throughout the work.

"Inscription for a War" was composed in early 2007. A deeply personal work for me at the time, the music was set to A.D. Hope's 1977 poem that eloquently states how I felt about the Iraq War. Several years later, this remains one of my favorite pieces I've ever composed.

"The Mansion" was composed in 2011. The inspiration for the work came from a reoccurring dream (or nightmare) I would have about being lost in a large, haunted mansion. The mansion would be abandoned, yet would be full of unexpected noises and surprises around every corner. Because of this, the music is intended to sound a little haunting, yet adventurous at the same time, because both of these emotions were strong in the dreams.I have been a student of the guitar for over 18 years, and I wanted to write a concerto-like work for the nylon string guitar and orchestra. Because an orchestra can be overpowering to the acoustic guitar, I have suggested that the guitarist use an acoustic guitar amplifier. The volume can be adjusted to the performers discretion, but the guitar should needs to always be heard. Although the work is technically challenging, I tried to write something that would still be accessible for the audience. Almost all of the thematic material comes from a simple 5-note motive that can be heard at the beginning of the piece in the piano and guitar. This work does not follow a specific form, although many of the sections do repeat.Originally for guitar &amp; orchestra, this arrangement is for guitar &amp; piano.

"Clarity" was originally written as the third-movement finale from my first symphony, composed in 2007. This arrangement for flute, clarinet and piano was completed in early 2011. The work was premiered at the University of North Texas in the Spring of 2011.  Grade 4. Duration: 7:45

Woodwind Trio

This piece for band, composed in 2007, was inspired by train rides the composer took while studying abroad in Great Britain. The Yorkshire area is especially beautiful, and the music was inspired by memories of sitting on a train with a tea in hand on a drizzly day. Revised in 2018 as an orchestra version, which is a little shorter than the original and offers a better balanced orchestration. Duration: 5:15.  Grade: 3+.

AVALANCHE is a highly rhythmic, energetic work. Completed in the Fall of
  2016, the work was inspired by Arctic avalanches. Much syncopation is heard
  throughout the music to reflect the building chaos of the rolling snow. A
  calmer B section provides a break from the avalanche, while still using much
  of the same thematic material. Soon after, the avalanche starts again and
  continues until the end where the work reaches its climax.

"Being With Time" was composed in 2002. It is one of my very early compositions and my first attempt at writing a brass quintet. I performed various low brass instruments in my younger years, and I learned a lot about how to write for the instruments as a result. The horn is the most challenging of the parts, but nothing here is too overwhelming for a college-level player or good high school musician. The work is set in a type of rondo form with various new ideas introduced throughout the work. The title is based on the feeling of peace in your life one gets while focusing on the present moment instead of worrying about the future.  Level: 3.5  Duration: 4:40

Being with Time - for Brass Quintet

"Clarity" was composed in 2007 as the last movement for my
  first symphony. Also known as the third movement "Finale," the work
  was later revised in 2011. Loosely based on my dissatisfaction with the
  modern world's obsession with consumerism and the distractions of technology,
  the title is about breaking free from the norm and finding clarity through
  the reconnecting with the sources in life. Duration: ca 7 minutes.

QUIESCENCE reflects the state of deep rest and recharging energy we
  receive from this state of almost no activity. While this is a slower music,
  the work has a soothing and uplifting quality that is sure to move the
  audience and leave a lasting impression.

"Overcast" is a three-movement work for solo trombone (or euphonium) and piano. The work is inspired by the brief period of my life when I lived abroad in England. As many people are aware, it rains constantly in Great Britain, thus making it an easy inspiration for music. Even though I consider the music to be somewhat melancholic, it is meant to also reflect the warmth and comfort I felt while living in the country where I met so many wonderful people. Other inspiration for the work came from Ralph Vaughan William's "Pastoral Symphony."

The Unchanging

"Romanza" - as its title suggests - is romance music. Completed in the very last week of 2017, almost all of the thematic material is derived from the four-note motive heard at the beginning. While this motive is very common, the inspiration for this work came mostly from Henryk Gorecki's "Three Pieces in Old Style." The work is also in a theme and variations form. Level: grade 4. Duration: approx. 6'50.
