Broken Journey

Broken Journey is a deeply personal Catholic choral work for women’s voices, men’s voices, and piano, reflecting on surrender, grief, and trust when God’s plan leads beyond what was hoped for or understood. The text gives voice to the pain of carrying an unexpected cross, while slowly turning that sorrow into prayer: “Lead me, and guide me Lord, through night and flame.” With its expressive piano writing and flexible, prayerful pacing, the piece captures the honesty of a soul wrestling with loss, fear, and disappointment, yet still seeking the presence of Christ along the way. The recurring image of the “broken journey home” speaks to the Christian belief that even suffering, when carried with the Lord, can become a path toward mercy, healing, and deeper trust.
