<p>This delightful arrangement by Scottish composer Kenneth Downie of the much-loved hymn 'Sweet Hour of Prayer' is now available for chamber orchestra. This ethereal setting transforms the familiar melody into a tapestry of celestial sound. The setting was one of the pieces on the CD 'Classic Hymns - The Symphonic Music of Kenneth Downie'. The arranger writes: 'There is a winsome quality to the words and music of Walford's hymn 'Sweet Hour of Prayer' that I find most attractive. The tune, by William Bradbury, captures this mood and I have tried to emulate it in my setting for orchestra. References to prayer calling us from a world of care, and bringing relief from seasons of distress and grief, are key to understanding the required style. The overall effect in performance should be to generate a feeling of calm and peaceful assurance.' Eb Instruments Book

This rousing and pulsating work by Kevin Norbury will be the perfect
  opener or finisher to your Christmas concert. This items forms part of the
  suite 'A Renaissance Christmas', also available from this website. It is
  based on three popular carols - 'In Dulci Jubilo', iGood Christian men,
  rejoice!i and 'Ding-dong merrily on high'.
    
    
    
    The opening of the piece is a straight transcription of the great chorale
  prelude for organ by J.S.Bach of 'In Dulci Jubilo'. After the grandeur of the
  opening, the tune is heard in more of a ifolkyi style. A lot of related
  melodic material is then presented before the tune 'Ding-dong merrily on
  high' is heard. After another episode of previously used music 'In Dulci
  Jubilo' reappears in a joyful conclusion to the piece.

The French composer Charles Gounod wrote 12 operas, of which the most popular has always been 'Faust' (1859); his 'Romeo et Juliette' (1867) also remains in the international repertory. He composed a large amount of church music, many songs and popular short pieces including his 'Ave Maria'.
 
This beautiful song 'Serenade' was composed in 1857. It uses a barcarolle rhythmic style throughout to give the effect of a childs cradle being gently rocked back and forth. It is a perfect illustration of the genius of Gounod, here presented as an arrangement for cornet/trumpet and piano by David Robb.

Bb Instruments Solo with Piano

This delightful work for woodwind ensemble was composed in April 2023 by
  Andrew Wainwright as a tribute to Catherine Ramsdale, who was a member of the
  composer's church, and who passed away at the age of 88. The music is
  supposed to be evocative of Catherine's loving and caring spirit. 
    
    
    
    Starting out in rather melancholy mood, the music moves into a more
  sprightly section to conclude the work.

Serenade for Winds

Woodwind Quintet

This fun-filled solo is from the pen of Welsh Composer Jonathan Mead, who
  has established himself as a very popular composer with BrookWright. The solo
  is a welcome addition to our Christmas solo range, and is written in a
  contemporary jazz/groove style, using the tune of 'A Normandy Carol'. There
  is also a beautiful slow middle section to show off the soloist's tone. This
  solo will be particularly ideal for soloists at school Christmas concerts and
  will be attainable for intermediate players and above.
    
     
    
    This product comes with solo part and piano accompaniment. Also available
  separately is a high-quality backing track. It is also available for
  instruments in Bb and Eb.

The Normandy Groove

The Tubby Butcher is a vibrant and fresh take on a classic brass piece. Arranged for either quintet or sextet, an optional 2nd trombone part is included.

The composer writes: 'For several years I used to play school concerts around Houston with our brass quintet. We followed a familiar formula; showing the kids how the instruments work and have a feature piece for each one. The tuba player played The Happy Farmer from Robert Schumann’s Album für die Jugend, a very dull arrangement of a dull piece. It bugged me so much I had to come up with something more exciting, hence The Tubby Butcher. Friends of mine have played this and tried to set speed records - I like it a little bit slower with a more 60s vibe, like the video we made with the Gothenburg Opera low brass (featured below). Straight 8ths, not swing. Drums are not required but a welcome addition. There is an optional 2nd trombone part if needed.'

Brass Quintet

One of BrookWright's most popular titles, this beautiful solo is based on an original song by Lee Fisher which was written for Britain's Got Talent star Charlie Green. In 2009 tenor horn virtuoso Sheona White commissioned Andrew Wainwright to arrange a version for tenor horn with brass band, and it is now available here as a solo for Eb instrument with Brass Quintet. This setting for brass quintet has been transcribed by Walter Liechti.

Brass Sextet

Jazz Suite for Brass Quintet was composed in 2021 expressly for the
  Spanish Brass. It was the First Prize Winner of the American Prize in
  Composition - Pops/ Light Music division in 2022. In addition, the first
  movement Cool Bop was the winner of the inaugural BrookWright International
  Brass Ensemble Composition Competition 2021.
    
    
    
    The four movements are composed in different styles and eras of Jazz.
    
     
    
    i. Cool Bop is of the Cool era of jazz played in clubs of New York City
  in the 1950s.
    
    ii. Corona Blues is in the style of jazz played in the streets of New
  Orleans in the 1920s. iii. Brass Bossa is of the Bossa Nova era played in
  Brazil in the 1960s. iv. Up is of the Big Band Swing era of the
  1940s.
    
     
    
    In the third movement, Brass Bossa, the 2nd trumpet player plays claves and
  the horn player plays triangle. In the fourth movemen, Up, the horn plays
  triangle and the first trumpet player plays a percussion solo on instrument
  cases or gig bags. Every jazz suite needs to end with a drum solo!
    
     
    
    Jazz Suite for Brass Quintet was recorded Spanish Brass and is on the CD
  Music for Brass Quintet by Gregory Fritze on the Spanish Brass label. 
    
     
    
    Duration of the entire suite is 15 minutes.

A stunningly beautiful solo version of the popular traditional Welsh Folk
  Song Ar Lan Y  Mor, which translates as
  Beside The Sea, arranged by Welsh composer Jonathan Mead. 
    
     
    
    Ar Lan Y Mor, is a love song, and this arrangement features some beautiful
  chords and melodic interaction between the soloist and accompanist. It also
  tests the lyrical ability of the soloist.

Reynaldo Hahn was a Venezuelan-born French composer, conductor, music
  critic, and singer. He is best known for his songs  melodies  of which he
  wrote more than 100. Originally a vocal solo, 'A Chloris' is one of his most
  popular and here has been set for flugelhorn or cornet with piano by David
  Robb.

John Stainer's stellar anthem 'God so Loved the World' has here been
  arranged for brass sextet by Keith M. Wilkinson. This enduring work is
  possibly the most sublime musical expression of a beloved text from the
  Gospel of John. Although set a semi-tone below the original pitch, it will
  work well as a choral accompaniment as well as a standalone item.

This work for cornet/trumpet and trombone/euphonium duetists with piano
  by Welsh composer Jonathan Mead is full of verve and vitality and will be an

  by the composer himself for the lively ijigi sections, and the very
  familiar Londonderry Air for the beautiful middle section.

Brass Duet

This thrilling work for brass quartet from the pen of Kenneth Downie is based on Bach's Two-part Invention in F major, BWV779.

The composer writes:

I wrote this quartet during the early days of Covid, when only small groups of instrumentalists were allowed to play together. 

Chamber music is something I enjoyed during my student days - it really is wonderful for developing good musicianship, requiring an awareness of what everyone in the group is doing, and calling for tight ensemble, keen balance and tuning, as well as a uniformity of style in performance.

Playing the two and three part inventions of J.S. Bach formed an important part of my piano studies, and since I found myself writing more counterpoint than usual in these quartets, it seemed entirely appropriate to reference the great master of counterpoint in this work. 

At bar 49, the euphonium quotes from the opening of Bach's Two-part Invention in F major, BWV779, the first keyboard work of Bach that I ever learned, and this phrase pops up quite frequently thereafter. The rising arpeggio figure has a bouncy, positive feel to it, and I really enjoyed developing this material. I hope that players and listeners will share the fun as they rehearse and perform the quartet.'

Part of BrookWright Music's 'The March King Collection' featuring four of
  John Philip Sousa's most popular marches transcribed for brass sextet, this
  march, written in 1893, was originally destined for inclusion in an operetta,
  but after the composer had witnessed a spectacle called America in Chicago,
  which had as its backdrop a huge painting of the Liberty Bell, it was given
  the name by which it has become famous. Further recognition has come in more
  recent years by the adoption of the march as the signature tune for the
  popular TV series, and later movie, Monty Python.
    
     
    
    A large unpitched bell features in the Optional Percussion part so if your
  group has a percussionist, added aural (and visual) interest can be added to
  a performance.
    
     
    
    The flexible instrumentation means the piece is playable by a wide variety
