This burning blues chart in F gets its title from the classic Randy Newman song about the Cuyahoga River catching fire in Cleveland in 1969 – the brief piano solo at the end is a nod to the song's introduction. This chart features a hard-swinging head, fresh orchestrations, a burning sax soli, and a drum feature. Written changes for piano, alto sax, trumpet, and trombone. Lead trumpet goes to a high C; lead trombone goes to a high B-flat. Commissioned for the 2025 Ohio All-State Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Don Zentz and Michele Fernandez (premier performance featured on recording).
