This work, whose title translates as "Even though a power dominates" was composed for one of the girl's barracks in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp during the Holocaust. Its intent was two-fold: first, when the girls were being moved about in a group outside the barracks it was sung on "lai, lai, lai" to keep the girls together and to identify them as belonging to a certain barracks; second, the text consisted of virulently anti-Nazi lyrics that could be sung in the barracks to keep hope alive when the girls were alone. This arrangement expands on the original, adding four part harmony. A pronunciation guide is available.
