"Carol of the Drum," also known as the "The Little Drummer
Boy," is a Christmas classic written in 1941 by American composer
Katherine Kennicott Davis. It was first recorded by the Trapp Family Singers
in 1951 and later in 1958 by the Harry Simeone Chorale. The lyrics focus on a
poor young boy who is summoned by the Magi to the birthplace of Jesus. Having
no gift suitable for the infant king, he asks Jesus's mother Mary if he can
play his drum for him instead. Arranger D. Jason Bishop gives the carol a
fresh and accessible treatment in this charming arrangement for SATB chorus,
snare drum, triangle, and piano. Separate parts for snare drum and triangle
also included. Duration: 3:00.
