Celebration

Celebration, Settling the West, a work commissioned by the Broomfield Youth Symphony, David Chase, Conductor, tells a story beginning with early settlers, to gold seekers, to present day prosperity in the strategically located community of Broomfield, Colorado. Early settlers took advantage of the fertile fields surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains. The year 1849 saw new growth as gold rushers spread across the West from Colorado to California. The rich history and beautiful setting of Broomfield serve as the backdrop for the high-tech industry and business parks currently attracting new residents to the area. Celebration begins with an introductory fanfare, setting the stage for festivity. A lively country dance commences to begin the party. This dance transitions into a beautiful waltz, signifying increasing sophistication, as more women and venture capitalists arrive from eastern states. A brief tribute to the influence of railroad construction on the expansion of the community segues into a sauntering, jazzy tune followed by a soaring melody encouraging optimism for continued prosperity into the future. The syncopated dotted quarter, dotted quarter, quarter note motive heard throughout, provides a sense of forward motion. Celebration was created with intention to stimulate imagination and to inspire members of the orchestra to enjoy playing as they are lifelong musicians!
