Here is a placid, flowing prelude on a familiar hymn tune that allows the organist to showcase a light solo stop such as an oboe, english horn, or cor d'amour. The tune is most commonly associated with the text "O Word of God Incarnate" and occasionally with the text "O Jesus, I Have Promised." The tune was adapted by Felix Mendelssohn in 1847 from a German chorale tune from the late 1600s. He then used the tune as the basis for the chorus "Cast Thy Burden upon the Lord" in his oratorio Elijah.
