Torque for 5-octave solo marimba was written for Dr. Chris Lizak. This muscular piece explores many aspects of marimba technique: motivic permutations, expressive roll techniques and ostinato vamp patterns. Musically, the work is a large fast-slow-fast format which utilizes a collection of notes that closely resemble that of Bartok's Z-cells.

"In the City" is a piece based on my various experiences moving to the city of Austin, Texas; you will no doubt hear the many facets of what it means to live in ATX. This highly advanced work for saxophone is ideal for graduate level and professional players. The piano part is likewise equally challenging, but the piece is very rewarding for highly-skilled musicians looking for a fun collaboration!

"Postcard Pieces" is a collection of musical vignettes based upon antique postcards belonging to Dr. Masters, who commissioned the work.  The movement titles are indicative of my impressions of the postcards and their accompanying text. Titles iclude "Excelsior" a pastoral lake scene; "Till home and heaven be now!"  featuring an ascending theme coupled with flowing textures;  "I have reasons" based on a postcard from a woman to a gentleman declaring 'I don't care to keep steady company anyway;'  "Italia"  a scene picturing traditional Italian musicians and dancers;  "A very lonesome house" a grim moment in a young woman's life;  and  "A la Jack London" an adventuresome toccata.

An energetic concert opener or closer, "Chasing Prisms" is a work for young wind ensemble that celebrates the joys of life, itself.  Built on a rhythmically-charged framework, this piece explores two melodies which both possess a heroic quality.  Throughout the work, these heroic melodies return in different guises and moods. An energetic and emotional journey through many different soundscapes and moods, "Chasing Prisms" conveys the radiant joy of triumph over the everyday struggles.

With incessant rhythms and a relentless pulse, "Detour" is a whirlwind from beginning to end. The piece commences with a repeated rhythm or ostinato in the low winds which pervades much of the work.
