All Creatures of Our God and King is an English Christian hymn by William Henry Draper, based on a poem by St. Francis of Assisi. It was first published in a hymn book in 1919.  Draper's text is usually set to the tune of "Lasst uns erfreuen".

The theme of the work is introduced after a brief opener.  The entire clarinet section is featured and turns into the entire band.  Very thick and lush textures will capture the listeners interest.  The first variation is more sporadic in nature as short motifs are present throughout.  The second variation, in , again is very thick and lush and utilizes a variety of color combinations available with the full concert band spectrum. The third variation, in 6/8, focuses more on the brass colors with woodwind technical work that will dazzle your audience.  The fourth variation was designed to be more of a cadenza like section.  The fifth variation has a fugue using the thematic material and moves to a dramatic finale to the conclude this serious work.  Both audiences and performers will enjoy this setting of All Creatures of Our God and King.

Concert Band Score & Parts

This is a wonderful arrangement of the traditional English folk song. Whether you know it as Greensleeves or What Child is This, it is a wonderful setting to share at your next holiday performance. It is very accessible to young players but more mature ensembles will be able to bring out the beauty in this piece. The audience is sure to enjoy it as well.

Legends and Myths is a three movement work that began as a cross-curricular project. Ninth grade English Curriculum at the time included the study of Homer's The Odyssey.  Each of the three movements represent three brothers from the novel; Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon.

Legends and Myths begins with Zeus, subtitled Who Rules as King of the Gods and the oldest of the three.  Opening like thunder and lightning on Mt. Olympus, the work leads to flourishing runs in the upper woodwinds.  The theme of this movement is soon realized having a simple yet noble quality.  The scoring of the woodwinds in particular is quite mature particularly for this grade level yet easily accessible thanks to the careful treatment of each part.  It will be very impressive.

The second movement, Hades subtitled God of the Dead and King of the Underworld is in 6/8.  While the percussion writing is critical to the success of the work, the timpani has a vital role in that it is meant to be Hades himself ruling the Underworld. It will definitely both excite and challenge your percussionists.

The final movement, Poseidon is subtitled The Earth Shaker.  Since Poseidon and Hades were brothers and as with a lot of brothers, there was some sibling rivalry.  It is only fitting that Poseidon be represented by the Timpani as well.  While the Timpani parts in both Hades and Poseidon are very demanding, one is not harder than the other.  

The work as a whole is a great introduction to twentieth century harmonies not often heard in works at this grade level.  It is a great programmatic work that would fit both a thematic concert or a stand alone piece.  An impressive work!

Legends and Myths

A great arrangement of the Holiday Classic Sleighride.  This version of LeRoy Anderson's classic, still retains most of the original material and charm including all of the percussion effects.  If you have a trumpet player that can supply the horse, then you are all set for a magical holiday concert.   What audience would not enjoy closing a seasonal concert with Sleighride. Your students will love it too!

A Holiday Fantasy is a collection of favorite Christmas/Holiday songs including:  Oh Come All Ye Faithful, Jingle Bells, Silent Night, In Excelsis Deo, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, Ding Dong Merrily On High, I Wonder As I Wander, Deck the Halls, He is Born, the Divine Christ Child, and The First Noel.

This arrangement would work well for either a concert opener or closer.  It has a very flashy opening leading into a quick and energetic rendition of Ding Dong Merrily On High.  The piece moves through the other tunes including I Wonder As I Wander showcasing your flute section that could be an optional flute solo, The First Noel, which will provide an opportunity for your brass section to show off, and finishing with an energetic combining of Jingle Bells and Oh Come All Ye Faithful.  Definitely will help celebrate the joyous season and events.

A Holiday Fantasy

A Jubilant Fanfare is a brief energetic work written to be a possible way to open your next concert or festival.  It contains all of the aspects of an attention-getting piece: exciting rhythms, extended harmonies, brilliant lines, and expanded percussion.  It is guaranteed to capture the attention of both the audience and the performers.

Farmington Fanfare is work that was commissioned by the Director of Bands at Farmington Junior High School, Heath Wolf. Farmington is a small community about
twenty minutes north of Salt Lake City.  The task was to create a three minute work written specifically for his students in his
advanced band. This work would be premiered at the 2009 MENC Convention.

The fanfare opens very briskly and almost immediately taken over by flashy clarinet parts with the melody occurring only in the Flute and the Bells. In fact, the melodic
line when it occurs is almost secondary in its simplistic design to the moving lines in the rest of the ensemble. Another part of the challenge was to right music that every
student would have something special to learn. The middle section has a variety of motifs with great interjections from various sections all happening to the groove of a hi-hat. And the frequent time signature change will definitely keep the players on the edge of their seats. Moving toward the ending, a restatement of the opening theme accompanied by woodwind flourishes. Percussion parts for the are quite abundant as the Farmington Junior High School under Mr. Wolf's direction has an award winning and nationally recognized Percussion Ensemble. A Percussion Section with fewer than seven percussionists would find it a challenge to cover all of the parts.

Farmington Fanfare is a piece that is sure to challenge musicians even at the high school level. However, excitement will be the word when players describe the
experience of performing this work.

A Symphonic Fantasy is the composer's setting of the traditional Appalachian fold song Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair. The original tune was collected by English composer and folk song archivist Cecil Sharp and was thought to be of Scottish origin.  The tune that is best known today is that assigned to the traditional lyrics by John Jacob Niles in 1941.

A Bell Carol Fantasy

A Bell Carol Fantasy is an arrangement of the very popular Christmas Carol, "Carol of the Bells". Carol of the Bells is based on the Ukrainian New Year's song "Shchedryk". The music for the carol comes from the song written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914; the English-language lyrics were written in 1936 by American composer of Ukrainian origin Peter Wilhousky.  Both audiences and performers will enjoy this arrangement of A Bell Carol Fantasy.

A Bell Carol Fantasy

Suncat, intended to be more accessible to younger players, includes a bass ostinato line that are typical in jazz charts with a latin and driving element. Syncopated figures are carefully notated in the rhythm parts to ensure authenticity and to support the horn lines.  The memorable melody and sturdy harmonies are supported by the active rhythm section. This showstopper will make an effective highlight for a trumpet soloist, which is cued in multiple parts, as it powers its way to a dynamic finish.  This engaging chart will be a great addition to any concert or festival program.  Sure to be both your students' and audience's favorite chart.
