Quoth Gene Wilder, "A little nonsense now and then is relished by
  the wisest men." I suppose we all felt like we needed a bit of nonsense
  during the Spring of 2020 at when we entered the strange new world that was
  the COVID-19 Pandemic. And who better to give us a bit of nonsense than the
  English poet Edward Lear (1812-1888),who is best remembered for his many
  nonsense
    
    limerick poems? This song cycle features twelve limericks from his 1846
  publication A Book of Nonsense, for those wanting to hear a bit of music and
  for those looking
    
    to relish in a little nonsense alike.

A prayer which goes by many names, I know it best as the Prayer of Saint
  Francis, though it was likely not written by Saint Francis of Assisi, but by
  a French priest named Father Esther Bouquerel (1855-1923), in whose magazine
  it first appeared in 1912. Its translated text reads as such:
    
    
    
    "Lord, make me an instument of Thy peace;
    
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    
    Where there is error, the truth;
    
    Where there is doubt, the faith;
    
    Where there is despair, hope;
    
    Where there is darkness, light;
    
    And where there is sadness; joy.
    
    
    
    "O Divine Master,
    
    Grant that I may not so much seek
    
    To be consoled, as to console;
    
    To be understood, as to understand;
    
    To be loved, as to love.
    
    
    
    "For it is in giving that we receive;
    
    It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
    
    And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen."

Prayer of Saint Francis

This piece was written for submission to (and subsequently won) the 2022
  Peninsula Musical Arts Association Choral
    
    Composition Competition, whose them was "Identity, Community, Home,
  Peace." For this,
    
    I decided to set the first and third stanzas of Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem
  "Good-Bye", a poem about leaving civilization and returning
  "home" -- i.e. to the natural world. The stanzas read as
  such:
    
    
    
    Good-bye, proud world! I'm going home:
    
    Thou art not my friend, and I'm not thine.
    
    Long through thy weary crowds I roam;
    
    A river-ark on the ocean brine.
    
    Long I've been tossed like the driven foam;
    
    But now, proud world! I'm going home!
    
    
    
    I am going to my own hearth-stone,
    
    Bosomed in yon green hills alone, --
    
    A secret nook in a pleasant land,
    
    Whose groves the frolic fairies planned;
    
    Where arches green, the livelong day
    
    Echo the blackbird's roundelay,
    
    And vulgar feet have never trod
    
    A spot that is sacred to thought and God.

A piece that grew out of an assignment to expand my sonic and rhythmic
  imagination, this is a piece that uses exclusively minor 2nd intervals and
  those related to them (major 7ths, minor 9ths, etc.). It ended up sounding to
  me like someone trying to navigate their way through a dense blanket of fog,
  hence the title.

This piece came out of an assignment from my professor to expand my
  scalar and rhythmic vocabulary. It (as the name suggests) uses the octatonic
  scales (primarily OCT 1,2) in melodies structured as a canon, a scherzo, and
  others.
