Beautifully arranged by J. Eric Wilson along with the composer, this version for wind band maintains all the wonder and magic of the original choral work. The opening is ethereal and somber, with sustained chords in clarinets and bowed percussion supporting a delicate oboe solo. The middle section shifts the principal modality from minor to major, and the layering orchestration and rising tessitura creates a tremendous rush of energy that leads to a triumphant climax. The closing section returns to the timbre of the opening, but now painted with hopefulness and healing.

This beautiful and emotional work, dedicated to the composer's mother, is based on a traditional Swedish melody set to a text by Carl Boberg in 1885. Once combined with the Swedish folk tune, his stanzas of awe and wonder gained popularity around the world, particularly following Stuart Hine's 1953 translation to English, known as How Great Thou Art.

Hearth

A lyrical and expressive work written in memory of a fellow band director. Inspired by the choral and orchestral styles of Morton Lauridsen, John Rutter, and Leonard Bernstein, the piece offers a rich emotional journey moving through moments of quiet sorrow, gentle remembrance, and, ultimately, hope. A tender flute solo near the beginning sets the tone, supported by warm wind scoring and thoughtfully crafted percussion lines. Suitable for high school and college ensembles, this is the second movement of "Aspects," a larger suite commissioned by the American School Band Directors Association; it may be performed independently or as part of the complete work.

The Girl with the Flaxen Hair

Here is a unique and creative setting of the familiar tune Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) that opens with the melody scored softly for the woodwinds. The full ensemble contributes a series of harmonically rich phrases until the work reaches and emotional climax at the powerfully scored key change. While this is certainly effective as a holiday offering, it can be performed as a memorable tone poem any time of the year.

The Weaver's Tale is a folksong ballad, written paying homage not only to my dearly departed friend, but also to Percy Grainger, who to this day, still has a huge influence on me as a composer. In 2006, a very dear friend and mentor passed away. Gary Weaver was a guiding light in my early years of teaching and just days before he died, I felt compelled to give him a call and check in. I'm glad that I did. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to him, one last time, and to say Goodbye. At that time, I had had the A section of a folk type melody rolling around in my head as it had for several weeks. After hearing of his passing, it only took a few days to complete this piece. I did not have the intention of writing a piece for anyone, but it was Gary's influence and passing that propelled me to complete my first band work, The Weaver's Tale. The Weaver's Tale features Oboe, but has optional solo parts for Clarinet, Alto Sax or Soprano Sax.

The beautiful elements of spring are illustrated in this remarkable work for young band. Only six pitches are used for each instrument, but beautiful harmonies and colorful orchestration are achieved to provide a perfect vehicle for teaching artistic expression and independence to developing players. Includes optional parts for clarinet and alto saxophone to support or double the French horn. It also features reproducible parts and digital sharing and streaming rights.

Spring

"The world is better with you in it." This simple yet powerful sentiment is the inspiration for this entry in the unBroken Project, a series of works dedicated to sparking discussion and thought about mental and emotional health. At times dark but ultimately hopeful, this work combines symphonic lyricism with pops sensibilities to create an accessible yet mature work for young band. Careful ranges, colorful orchestration, and engaging percussion are used to great effect – this is sure to have a strong impact on performers and audiences.
